A new report published by Good Organisation (Social Ventures) CIC presents the findings of a two-year programme of research exploring how York residents experience the city's visitor economy and how they believe tourism should contribute to the city's future.
The research, undertaken between 2024 and 2026 in partnership with academic partners and local voluntary and community organisations, engaged more than 1,000 residents through surveys, community workshops, interviews and participatory research.
It has found overwhelming support for the introduction of an overnight visitor levy, provided the money is reinvested locally to tackle the pressures created by tourism.
