Homeless Bound

The Homeless Bound publication explores how the language and misconceptions of people experiencing homelessness continue to shape our response to the issue.

In a world saturated with media images portraying homelessness through narrow stereotypes, Homeless Bound emerges as a refreshing endeavour aimed at shifting cultural perceptions. Conceived by the Good Organisation, a social enterprise in York led by individuals with lived experiences of homelessness, this book is a testament to their collective mission for change.

Fuelled by a desire to challenge the language and misconceptions surrounding homelessness, the team embarked on a journey of participatory research. Engaging in heartfelt conversations at a local cafe serving the homeless community, they gathered stories, art, and photography that vividly capture the diverse realities of homelessness.

Contributors to Homeless Bound offer a mosaic of perspectives, encompassing individuals from various backgrounds, including rough sleepers, hostel dwellers, and those in hidden homelessness.

By amplifying these voices, the book challenges the prevailing narrative that blames individuals rather than addressing structural poverty.

Ultimately, the publication serves as a catalyst for reflection, inviting readers to reconsider their perceptions and engage in meaningful dialogue about homelessness. This 120-page publication, available as a hardback coffee table book, promises to ignite conversations and inspire action towards a more empathetic and inclusive society.
